i was short five bucks on saturday and ten bucks could only get me the first of Mojave‘s albums, ‘Stories’. which I bought on iTunes already but that’s ok cause i have this weird thing were sometimes i’ll buy something on iTunes but still feel compelled to go out and buy the physical album. so i guess that worked out. now i have to wait to get my hands on Crows Funeral.

btw, they just relaunched their website. the entire set of shots i took is here.

if you’re a fan of acoustic or folk or ‘serious SOCAN’ music, then you really have no excuse to not go see one of their shows. and getting stuck in traffic or on the skytrain or whatever isn’t a good excuse. i suppose if you’re somehow horribly maimed then that would work, but otherwise, you know, no excuse.

Anomalous Disturbances opened with a set of ambient music that’s kind of like background music but at the same time you’re paying attention to it if not only for the fact that you have to make a few comments about ‘how in the hell is he making that sound like that?’ It also makes you want to go play Halo. i don’t know why but it does.

it’s hard to find fault with Mojave’s stuff. i kind of wished hte set would have been two or three songs longer but whatever, it’s good music.

plus, everyone there was treated to a super new song that’s so new it’s not even on the new album. it’s so new it’ll be on the next new album. so that’s like, doubly new.

i think one of the appealing things about Mojave is that they’re really appreciative and friendly with their fanbase. the whole time before their set they were talking with people in the café and signing whatever people wanted them to sign and having a generally good time about the whole thing.

their next show is June 14 at the Caprice. (details on this one are up in the air apparently, check their site for updates). ok, so on the old site i’m pretty sure that said it was on the 17th at the Railway Club but I’ll go with the new one. and it’s at this point where i have to admit that until about three minutes ago when i found out that the show has been moved from the 17th to the 14th that I don’t know if I’ll be there cause I’m pretty sure that weekend a bunch of us are going to be camping. and before you say anything, camping is always a good excuse.

they’re back in Vancouver on the 24th at the Cellar so either way, I’ll get to one.

the title of this post has nothing to do with the show. i’m listening to daft punk. i’m also still sort of lamenting the loss of my hiking pole to a waterfall yesterday.

7 Thoughts.

  1. great photos, and great post! ya, the show at the railway was cancelled by the band organizing the night, so the next show is june 24th at the cellar (even that caprice show might be moved…). the cellar show is FOR SURE though – and will be fun times.

  2. yo, was great to see you your photos are AWESOME! i also like your thoughts on Mojave. i should have grabbed a shot with you. next time. have fun camping.

  5. fantastic shots Pat. Not that I know these people personally but you can see their personalities shine through. You’re awesome at capturing ‘realness’ for real 🙂
