this sign comes from ontario’s oldest outdoor antique whatever the fuck. so does this next one, which again shows you the inherent coolness and retro rust class that just oozes from their flaky metal edges.

aside from sharing the admirable traits of rust, weather beaten something and white and red paint…and lettering… and that black thing… yeah well you get the idea… a common trait also shared by these pictures is that they were unexpectedly sent to me by raymi.
i’ve met raymi. i’ve bowled with raymi. i’ve gauged my own blogging against hers, but then really, that’s not even a close comparison.
inevitably when you have a large group of friends you’ve made from blogging, it usually comes up in discussion. or several times. and it can get to be a very intense discussion. a while ago i figured that people get way too involved with the personal aspects of bloggers they read or are in the upper echelon of the medium. i don’t. here’s how you can tell. i had no idea what was going on with that globe and mail piece until last week. i don’t really think it’s any of my business what the personal lives of people beyond my screen is unless i’m their friend for reals in real life. thus, you avoid getting angry over things that really have no impact on your life or your own blogging. and you know what? I think that makes for a way better ability to take things as they are. if you’re not concerned with demanding more information or details then you can just sit back and enjoy content without feeling like you’re being ripped off for content as a reader.
i try to keep personal things off of here as much as I can, because really, out there in internet land, it’s fuck all of your business as to what kind of things i go through. the same applies to anyone, unless they so choose to let you take a look past your screen.
so, when i found out last week about the raymi and phil split, my reaction was not “OMG TELL ME MORE!” it was “shit that sucks. what’s on lolcats today?” does that sound shallow? I don’t think so. it’s like people who are addicted to entertainment tonight or spend hours reading fucking gossip blogs about who fucked who and whatnot. what difference does it make to you? im willing to bet nothing.
im not sure what my point is here entirely. i’m trying to come up with one, but i’m also watching a live derby bout online between Rocky Mountain and Philly. so you can see exactly how involved I am with the personal business of people i have met once. i think people should take that to heart.
but still, you have to admit that when you open your email and see a random message from a blogging monarch, you have to stop for a second and think “hmm, what’s this?”
i think i’m going to wander around whyte ave for a bit. going to the edmonchuck Matt Good show tonight too.
